Realizing that a world record-setting voyage through both passages of the North Pole was only possible because of rapid ice melting, polar explorer Borge Ousland challenged us to create a breakthrough way to educate a global audience. We suggested that he bring the world with him in real time.


Recruiting Google and Discovery Networks as core partners, our team created a satellite-based live stream connected to YouTube, Google Maps and social media. At any point, an online audience could follow the voyage, view footage from the crew, and even communicate with crew members. Together with AVGA-filmed material, all elements were brought together into a follow-up documentary and multimedia education campaign hosted by Google.
